Energy and  Environement

Energy and the environment constitute one of the most important pillars of sustainable development. Human development is increasingly threatened by risks due to climate change.

According to its mandate to strengthen development support capacities, UNDP supports the Algerian Government’s efforts in implementing action plans and strategies to preserve the way of life and promote sustainable management of the environment.

UNDP supports national partners in implementing UN conventions on the environment and endeavors to address the major priorities underlined by the National Action Plan on the Environment and Sustainable Development elaborated with its support.

Conscious of the socio-political issues induced by climatic change, such as soil degradation and a strong erosion of the natural genetic capital, UNDP and its new national partners adopted the United Nations Development Assistance Framework  (UNDAF) fixing the following objectives for 2011:

sustainable use and management of natural resources and areas

sustainable use and land settlement

Fighting against pollution and its consequences

Strengthen civil society capacities in the realm of environmental protection

UNDP support has produced a great deal of results, such as the implementation of integrated management plans for protected zones, the formulation and implementation of garbage collection for local districts and environmental education at school and within professional training schemes.
